About the work

This work explores unstable relationships between language, the oboe, and the body. Throughout the work, speech, breath, pitch, key mechanism, and vocal tract shift between acting together and independently. Rather than remaining fixed, these materials continually interfere with, interrupt, and reshape one another.

The work unfolds across four interconnected sections. These are not separate movements, but distinct modes of performance that recur, overlap, and gradually transform throughout the piece. Mechanical resistance, instability, incidental sounds, and involuntary behaviours are treated as primary musical material.

Created in collaboration with Pilar Fontalba.
