About the work

Stone Compression pairs the electronically processed grinding overpressure of the violin with the amplified sound of a megaphone and a fixed-media soundscape derived from recordings of rockfalls and landslides. Together these materials create heavy, abrasive, and often uncontrollable sonic textures.

The work explores accumulation, pressure, and instability through the interaction of acoustic performance and electronics. Extended violin techniques, vocal material projected through the megaphone, and dense layers of environmental recordings continuously compress and erode one another.
