About the work

This iteration of Micropraxis is a relatively short composition for large ensemble. The work explores a playful and robotic sonic palette created through the execution of short whirs, blips, and mechanically inflected gestures.

The combination of electric synthesizer and acoustic instruments evokes a futuristic atmosphere. Brass instruments imitate the hiss of hydraulics, while ticking percussion contributes a sense of mechanical precision and regularity.

In the first half of the piece, these sounds are intentionally scattered and overlapping, creating an unpredictable field of activity. As the composition unfolds, however, the ensemble gradually converges, culminating in a forceful reiteration of a single chord in the second half.

Scattered mechanical gestures gradually converge into a unified orchestral sonority.
