About
About the work
a similar voice breaking out was composed for the Tura New Music Totally Huge New Music Festival. The work centres on the relationship between two bass clarinets performing closely related material that gradually becomes increasingly agitated.
The composition unfolds through a series of time-unit cells that require the performers to carefully negotiate their temporal placement in relation to one another. Throughout the work the bass clarinets repeatedly merge and diverge, creating shifting textures of tension, instability, and release.
During the premiere, an audience member created a live drawing in response to the performance. Rather than documenting the ensemble directly, the sketch captures an impression of the work's energy and movement.
