About
About the work
a moment lost was composed for the Domaine Forget Contemporary Music Festival. The work centres on vocalises performed through the contrabass flute using a nonsensical, invented language.
These vocal materials are woven into the wider ensemble texture. The prepared piano uses metal chains to create dense, crunching sonorities, while the percussionist uses metal objects to agitate the instruments. The E-flat clarinet, violin, and violoncello contribute unstable, soaring lines that continually disrupt and extend the flute’s vocal gestures.
Throughout the piece, voice, breath, friction, and instrumental instability are treated as interconnected materials, producing a chamber texture that shifts between fragmentation and brief moments of collective intensity.
Voice, breath, friction, and unstable instrumental lines are woven into a dense chamber texture.
